Louis Hiemstra
LOUIS A HIEMSTRA, MMedFam, MFGP, and FWSSA, practiced as a general practitioner and medical professor at the University of the Free State.
His art education spans 25 years, and more than twenty masters in various media has contributed to his training, which include artists like Dale Elliot, Richard Rennie, Don Andrews, Marj Bowen, Rowena Bush, Bob McKenzie and Chirstoper Haw to name a few.
Since his retirement in 2008, Louis has devoted himself to art as his profession. He is a fellow of the Watercolour Society of SA, and has contributed work to more than 20 national exhibitions. He has sold in excess of a 1500 pieces and his works are well represented in local galleries and homes in South Africa and abroad.
Louis is also a well known caricaturist, and currently a weekly comic strip named ‘Swartskaap’ (Black sheep) appears in ‘Die Volksblad’ in the Free State.
